The 69th Anniversary of Universitas Hasanuddin, Car Free Day is Temporarily Closed

13 Sep, 2025

The 69th Anniversary of Universitas Hasanuddin brought a special atmosphere to the campus this year. As one of the leading universities in Eastern Indonesia, Unhas has marked nearly seven decades of achievements and meaningful contributions to society. The Dies Natalis celebration is not only an academic tradition but also a cultural and social moment that engages students, lecturers, alumni, and the wider community.

In preparation for the festivities, the university decided to temporarily suspend the weekly Car Free Day (CFD) usually held on campus every weekend. CFD at Unhas has become a healthy public space, where both the academic community and the public enjoy jogging, cycling, aerobics, or simply walking around the main campus area free of vehicles.

This week, however, CFD is on hold to ensure the smooth running of the 69th Dies Natalis celebration. The main roads and open spaces inside the campus are fully dedicated to parades, art performances, social activities, and welcoming guests from various institutions and communities.

Although CFD is suspended for just one week, the spirit of togetherness and healthy living that has always characterized the event remains. In fact, the Dies Natalis celebration brings a new color to campus life, as thousands of participants gather to commemorate the long journey of the “red campus.”

This temporary adjustment also reflects Unhas’ effort to balance routine activities with major celebrations that involve wider audiences. The following week, CFD will return as usual, continuing to serve as an inclusive and refreshing space for both the campus community and the people of Makassar.

Thus, the 69th Dies Natalis of Universitas Hasanuddin is more than a ceremonial milestone. It becomes a moment to strengthen the bond between the university and society. CFD may take a brief pause, but the values of community, health, and positivity remain alive throughout this year’s anniversary celebration.
