Ikhtiar Mosque Witnesses the Spirit of Unhas Students in Pursuing Qur’anic Knowledge

15 Sep, 2025

Ikhtiar Mosque at Hasanuddin University once again became the stage for the enthusiasm of Muslim students in learning the Qur’an. Yesterday, the General Assistance of SAINS (Intensive Qur’an Study) was held as the official opening of the Qur’anic guidance program for the upcoming semester. This event was not merely ceremonial but marked the beginning of a learning atmosphere filled with dedication.

From early morning, more than a thousand Muslim students had already filled the mosque. Their eager faces reflected the passion to take part in the halaqah sessions that have been prepared. The General Assistance also served as the first meeting between students and mentors who will guide them in their respective halaqah.

In his remarks, SAINS Team Coordinator Agus Nurcholis expressed his appreciation to the new students and briefly explained SAINS as the largest Qur’an learning program at Unhas. He also noted that this semester SAINS involves 3,861 students from ten faculties, supported by more than 150 assistants. The program will run for six meetings over the course of two months.

Similar appreciation came from the Chairman of Ikhtiar Mosque Management, Dr. Ir. Masyhur Syafiuddin, M.P., who emphasized that the large number of students present was evidence that the Islamic spirit on campus remains strong.

“We are proud to see a young generation ready to make the mosque a center for both intellectual and spiritual activities. May SAINS nurture students who excel academically, are religiously devoted, and embody Islamic character.”

The highlight of the program was a lecture delivered by Ustadz Fadlan Ahmad, S.S., M.Si. With a firm and engaging style, he presented the theme “The Importance of Reciting the Qur’an and Purifying Intentions in Good Deeds.” He reminded students that every action must be accompanied by sincere intention in line with the guidance of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.

The atmosphere became even more engaging when he stressed the importance of building collective habits. According to him, a halaqah is not just a weekly gathering but a small community that strengthens one another in goodness. He also encouraged students to embrace the culture of asking questions, engaging in discussions, and practicing how to share what they have learned.

The General Assistance was not only about distributing halaqah groups and introducing mentors. It served as a reaffirmation that the campus mosque remains a center for nurturing the younger generation. The presence of thousands of students reflected not just a fulfillment of obligations, but a shared determination to make this semester meaningful.

With SAINS officially launched, Unhas students have begun their journey in deepening their connection with the Qur’an. Each halaqah formed is expected to foster strong bonds between students and the Qur’an, while cultivating a sustainable culture of learning. The mosque continues to stand as a place where knowledge, character, and togetherness are nurtured.
